Katherine Burger is a playwright, with productions in the U.S., London, Paris, L.A., and elsewhere - and she is also a collage artist.

At the Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, NY, where she is Program Director for the Artists In Residence Program, Katherine has won raves for her collages from the career artists who attend the colony each summer. She sells her work privately, and to media companies such as Pomegranate Publishing: her collage “Cat Stalking Leaf” has been featured in Pomegranate’s Christmas card catalog.

Photo courtesy David Mudd, American ProfileKatherine’s folkloric & whimsical pieces appeal to both children and adults. Strong lines, mixed patterns, vibrant colors and stylized perspectives show the influence of Persian and Indian paintings, classic children’s book illustrations, and poster art. Cats, bears, birds, and more exotic animals appear frequently in Katherine’s work, often in settings of complex, multi-layered interiors.

In addition to individual collages, Katherine has taken advantage of her skills as a dramatist to create illustrated stories in verse and prose; see Children’s books for excerpts.
